New-construction windows have a nailing fin — a flat flange around the frame — that fastens into the wall framing before the siding or brick goes on, so they are used when the wall is open to the studs on a new build, addition or rebuild. Replacement windows have no fin and drop into an existing, finished opening without disturbing the cladding. Same glass and styles, different install method — we use whichever suits the state of your walls, and on a renovation that is often a mix of both.

Can you work with my builder?
