Both insulate far better than an old wood or half-glass door, so it comes down to budget and looks. Steel is the budget-friendly, secure choice and holds paint well, though it can dent and show a scratch. Fiberglass costs more but resists dents, never rusts, and will not warp, swell or crack through our freeze-thaw swings — and it can be finished to mimic real wood grain. For a north- or west-facing entry that takes the wind, we usually lean fiberglass for the long-term stability, but we lay out both at the estimate.
