Door styles
Frameless, semi-frameless or framed?
The difference is how much metal holds the glass.
Frameless
Thick tempered glass on hinges and clamps, no metal edges. Easy to wipe down, but it needs careful fitting, since there's no frame to hide an uneven wall.
Semi-frameless
Metal along the fixed panels or top, with a frameless door. It copes better with a wall that isn't plumb.
Framed
Thinner glass in a full frame. The simplest to fit and the best at keeping water in, so it's common on tubs and in rentals.
Glass choices
Glass choices: clear, low-iron, frosted, coated
In the trade, shower glass means tempered safety glass, and the building code expects tempered or laminated glass in any shower or tub enclosure. Tempered glass breaks into small blunt pieces instead of shards. It can't be cut or drilled afterward, so every hole is made first.
Clear glass has a faint green edge; low-iron glass reads whiter. Frosted glass adds privacy. A factory coating helps water run off. Niche shelves can be cut to size at the same time.

Measuring, templating and install timeline
Shower glass can't be trimmed on site, so measuring matters as much as installing.
Send photos and rough sizes
A photo of the opening and rough width and height let a pro discuss options before visiting. Say whether the tile is finished.
Final measure on finished tile
Houses on clay settle, so the pro checks every wall for plumb. Many Tuxedo and Charleswood houses date from the 1960s and 70s, and their bathrooms show it.
Glass made, then installed
Panels are cut, drilled and tempered, which takes some time. Installing is usually one visit, and the silicone cures before the first shower.

Water on the floor
Frameless glass manages splash rather than sealing it; small gaps are part of the design. A new sweep, a seal strip or a fixed splash panel usually sorts it.
A door that sags
Worn or loose hinges let the door drop until it rubs the curb. A tightened or new hinge often brings it back.
Cloudy glass
Mineral and soap build-up can etch the surface in time. A squeegee helps and a coating slows it.
Tub enclosures
Tub enclosures and walk-in conversions
A tub with a curtain can take sliding glass doors without touching the tile. Turning a tub into a walk-in shower is bigger: the plumbing, floor and tile change first, and the glass comes last.

Replacing a broken panel or worn hardware
A dripping or wobbly shower rarely needs a new enclosure. Hinges, clamps, handles, sweeps, seals and tub-door rollers can be replaced on their own, and one broken panel can be remade to match.
A full replacement makes sense when the frame is corroded, several parts are failing, or the glass has no tempered mark in a corner. If the vanity mirror is due too, a mirror cut to fit can be quoted with it.
